The Greatest Generation And The Greatest Mistakes Of All
My children have asked me why they are constantly told that they are the generation of youth who will prepare the way for the Savior’s second coming. Why are they told this, they wonder, when my generation, and the generation before mine, were told the same thing.
I believe the answer lies in the fact that it takes more that one generation to turn an apathetic society into a God-fearing one. My parents helped to mold me into the person I am today. I am molding my children, and they, in turn, will mold theirs. Each generation plays a vital part in the creation of the final generation who will be here, prepared and ready, to welcome Christ at his coming.
It’s a generations-long process.

The Greatest Generation
Will The Greatest Generation Choose To Act?
The work that has taken place in previous generations to get us to where we are today has been vital . And it has made a noticeable difference. Things are headed in the right direction. For instance, abortion, was allowed to remain in the darkness for many decades. Today,it is being brought to the light, mostly by the younger generation who have the desire to act on what they believe.
Some time ago, I spent a couple hours visiting with an elderly couple. They shared that they believe the government is overreaching in their efforts to deal with certain issues. This makes them quite unhappy. However, when asked what they think should be done about the situation, their response was, “Nothing. We’re going to just stay at home and do what we’re told to do.”
Granted, at their age, I would not recommend that they do anything that might put their health in jeopardy. However, it is difficult for me and for many of my generation to even fathom not doing something to stop injustices from taking place.

The Desire to Take Action
My children and their generation have stronger feelings about maintaining our liberty than did even my generation.
One daughter gets upset with me when I put more value on our health than on protecting our freedoms.
“What difference does it make to sit here and talk about how our freedoms are being taken away,” she says with frustration. “I want to go out and do something to defend and protect those freedoms.”
Another daughter asked, “I want to do something right now to protect our freedoms⎯what can I do?”
Really Hard Questions
The time has come to decide where we stand on the issue of defending the Constitution. Consequently, this involves asking ourselves some really hard questions:
“Am I willing to take a stand against popular opinion to do what I feel is right?”
“Does my life have more value than the life of a baby? When is murder justified?”
“Is forced health care Constitutional?”
“Am I willing to sacrifice my life in defense of the Constitution? Am I willing to be fined, to be imprisoned, to die, or a hundred other possibilities, in defense of our liberties?
These are questions that many in the past have asked and answered so nobly.
These are the types of questions we’ve been warned that we’ll be faced with in the future. You know, when things get really bad in our country and the Constitution is hanging by a thread.
The Greatest Mistakes of All
Well, what if that time is now?
What if the time to ask and answer those questions is today.
“Do you value freedom over your life?”
“What are you willing to sacrifice in defense of our liberties?”
“He that would give up a little liberty for security deserves neither and loses both.” ~ Benjamin Franklin
“That which is not just is not law; and that which is not law must not be obeyed.” ~ Algernon Sidney
“When the people fear the government, that is tyranny. When the government fears the people, that is liberty.” ~ Attributed to Abraham Lincoln
Make no mistake about it, this greatest generation was born “for such a time as this”.
The way has been prepared for them.
The time to take action is now.
Rest assured that we’ll make mistakes along the way.
We are human, after all.
But apathy and inaction are the greatest mistakes of all.
Now Is Your Time
A timely message for this, the greatest generation.
Conclusion
How will you allow Benjamin Franklin, Algernon Sidney, Abraham Lincoln, and the youth of our day inspire you to action?
What can you do, beginning today, to start moving in the right direction?
How might you encourage others to do the same?

Overcoming Fear and Building the Kingdom of God
“…my brother said that, underneath, he thought they were frightened. It was because they were frightened, he thought, that they had grown so small. Each generation had become smaller and smaller, and more and more hidden.”
We in this generation have been called to be the opposite of small and fearful. We have been called to stand tall and be courageous.
Reflecting on that experience, I was reminded of my slippers⎯the right slipper in perfect condition, the left with a hole in the toe.

The evening begins with bowls of warm chili and trembling, nervous tummies.
True, the children, ages 10, 8, and 5, had spent the past few weeks in great anticipation of this Chili Dinner and Talent Show. However, now that their turn to perform is quickly approaching, they are having second thoughts.
“What have we gotten ourselves into?” they wonder aloud. Their growing apprehension is palpable.
