An Impression

Some time ago, I was bustling around the house completing various mom responsibilities: scrubbing burnt pots, wiping up forgotten spills, folding a mountain of laundry–you know, the usual stuff. Suddenly, right amidst the clamor of daily life, a distinct impression came to my mind:

“Go to go to the couch and read a few children’s books.

Creating a Priceless Moment

We had just been to the library that day, so children’s books were conveniently stacked in the living room. Acting immediately on the impression, I untied my apron, grabbed a handful of children’s books from the stack, and settled in on the couch. The colorful images on the pages of the first book were captivating and, before long, I was fully engaged with the storyline.

Moments later, my 12-year-old daughter burst into the room and noticed me on the couch. Wasting no time, she snuggled right up next to me. Putting her head on my shoulder, she listened as I read aloud one book after another.

It was a priceless moment with my older child that would have been missed if I had ignored the impression I’d received and continued on with my “mom responsibilities”.
